Yesterday I featured a handy image to icon converter, here’s something that reminds us that downloading stand-alone freeware is becoming a thing of the past. Here’s a web-app that also makes image to icon conversions - ConvertIcon.

While it doesn’t pack the oomph of stand-alone programs, it basically accomplishes it’s prime purpose, which is to convert images to icon files. It only accepts limited file formats with only PNG and ICO as choices.

But for a quick fix, it’s handy too. It lets you enter an online image’s URL and can convert from there. It also lets you upload images from your computer and convert from there. It preserves the alpha transparency information in the PNG or ICO file so you’d still have that clean transparency.
