Mindomo

Brainstorming sessions can get out of hand at times, especially when every participant’s got a strong opinion one way or the other. So usually it’s all about having a good moderator or facilitator and some documenting tools to do the job. But if you tried rewriting brainstorming charts to the computer (like in MS Word you’ll find that it’s a difficult job. That’s where brainstorming apps come in handy.

So here’s a brainstorming app with a twist - Mindomo. I’m a big fan of mind mapping software since I used to do a lot of brainstorming facilitation. There are other stand-alone and web-based mind mapping software like Freemind and Bubbl.us. While Freemind works great for me, I just love the fact that I can access apps online even if I don’t have admin privileges in a machine (like if I decide to work in an internet cafe).

So why Mindomo? I find it a bit more robust than Bubbl.us. It’s got options to customize fonts, insert symbols and images, nesting of nodes, zoom, import and export, and importantly, sharing. It’s a great project management tool too with task information like task duration and resources. It works on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
