One behavior that you might notice when typing something on the Google search field is that it pops out suggestions from your previous searches. Clearing your history is a good privacy and security measure. Especially when you search all sorts of “stuff” on the family computer. You don’t want your kid brother to come up with your searches that start with “hot” or something.
Google searches are stored as part of “saved forms.” So those are what you want to clear. Here are the basic steps on both Firefox and IE.
On Mozilla Firefox
Here’s what you should do on Firefox:
Tools -> OptionsPrivacytabsaved form an search historyActually, here’s a quicker way using a shortcut.
On Internet Explorer 6
Tools -> Internet OptionsContent tabAutoComplete in the Personal Information sectionClear Forms to clear the current historyAutoComplete make sure you uncheck FormsOn Internet Explorer 7

5@Helen
I’m not much of a Safari user too but I guess you can try either one of these things:
Completely restart safari (clear cookies, cache, history….)
1. Access the Safari menu
2. Click Safari
3. Click Reset Safari
Clearing Google Search History:
1. Access the Safari menu
2. Click Preferences
3. Select the AutoFill tab
4. Clock the Edit button on the Other Forms line
5. Select Google.com from the AutoFill list
6. Click Remove
7. Click Done
