If there’s one limitation of the Windows taskbar it’s allowing you rearrange the taskbar buttons. I’m pretty OC when it comes to button order but there’s just no way to arrange the buttons but to open the windows or applications in a particular order.

Here’s a freeware that lets you do what our friend Bill doesn’t. It’s called Taskbar Shuffle and it lets you rearrange your buttons by drag them around. Nice. It also lets you do some other stuff like:

  • Group taskbar buttons
  • Group least used applications first
  • Group applications with X number of windows
  • Group applications but never collapse into one button
  • Allow middle-click to close button/group

And you just have to bang your head on the wall wondering why Microsoft never put this option in on the first place.

You can download it here: Taskbar Shuffle. It’s for Windows NT, 2000, and XP.
