Keyboard ninjas might have had a hard time trying to adjust to the new search bar. While I have to admit that it has made it easier for me to run programs using the keyboard, some power users might just miss the powers of the Run command. And coming from XP where the Run command just seems to be a staple, I do have to share other’s sentiments on missing it from the Start Menu.

Well, as a consolation, Vista never really did away with it. It’s just a feature that’s hidden by default. Here’s how you can claim back your beloved Run command

  • Right-click on the Start Menu -> Properties. On the Start Menu tab, click on Customize across the Start Menu radio button.
    Run Command in Vista
  • Look for the Run command checkbox and enable it.
    Run Command in Vista 2
  • Click OK twice on both menus and watch how your Run command is restored in its rightful place.
