Protein shakes and other muscle-making concoctions that you buy from fitness stores that have some ugly person’s mug plastered all over the canister. Yes, that’s the world of fitness drinks all right. Never mind if they taste like crap. So how about going natural again and just revisit good old Mother Nature’s produce. And some of those nutritious foods don’t get the decent amount of attention due them. So here are five foods that don’t get the attention they deserve.
Strawberries
Whenever we want to get our regular dose of Vitamin C, we usually think citrus fruits. But strawberries are not far behind when it comes to vitamin C content. One cup of strawberries has more Vitamin C than an orange. They are also good sources of fiber, which helps maintain normal blood sugar levels.
Eggs
Although eggs are disdained for packing in a lot of cholesterol, studies show that they do not actually increase cholesterol levels that much when eaten only once or twice per week. Eggs can lower the bad cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and are a great source of choline, an important nutrient from the Vitamin B family which aids and enhances brain function.
Tuna
All fish are low in calories and saturated fat and high in protein and fatty acids. But omega 3 fatty acid concentrations are higher in cold-water fish, such as tuna, than warm-water fish. These fatty acids are known for reducing blood pressure, decreasing the risk of heart diseases and promoting healthy brain function.
Avocados
They have been known to contain lots of fats, which you might think are wrong for you. But these fats are the good monounsaturated kind that provides essential fatty acids for healthier skin and body cells. Avocadoes also contain cancer-fighting antioxidants.
Kiwi
Most fruits are usually high in only one or two nutrients but Kiwi contains relatively high concentrations of several vitamins and minerals. Among these are folic acid, copper, calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin B6 and more. Because of the many nutrients in it, kiwi helps protect against a lot of diseases too, especially heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Eating two to three pieces per day helps reduce blood clotting which may be a reason for heart attacks.
