Menopause is a biological process among women. But what about menopause among men? Did you ever think it’s possible? Well, it’s true! Men actually suffer from symptoms of menopause. Andropause or male menopause happens when the production of testosterone gradually declines. This usually occurs to men between the ages of 40 to 60. Part of what you can say “mid-life crisis.”
Male menopause is brought about by old age. As men grow old, they develop testicular problems which may result in a decrease in the levels of testosterone that their body is able to produce. And from there, male start to suffer from their own menopausal symptoms.
Symptoms of andropause bring discomfort but it is nowhere near advisable that men should handle this condition without consulting their doctors. Women experience hot flashes when they undergo menopause; and so do men. These are the other signs: fatigue, pain in the joints, sleeping problems, lack of energy, endurance problems, and drowsiness after meals especially dinner. Among these health problems there is also the negative effect on your sex drive — you get erection problems. These symptoms might build up to become a serious case of depression, too.
There is a treatment known as testosterone replacement but which is controversial due to its supposed risks. There is also testosterone injections but it is believed to increase risks in stroke, liver toxicity, enlarged breasts and even temporary sterility. Since this is all new to you, you really have to seek medical help and guidance.
