Women go through an inevitable stage of menopause when they stop having monthly menstrual cycle. This usually occurs at the age of 45-55 with the following common symptoms: no menstrual period for the last 12 months without surgical / biological cause, sudden changes in your menstrual pattern, hot flashes, dryness in the vaginal area, sudden and extreme mood swings, inability to focus or concentrate, and thinning hair.

Menopause can be hard for women, especially when it comes unexpectedly. This is why it pays to be prepared for it so that you can cope with it when it comes.

Hot flashes occur more often during night-time. Try wearing loose or thin clothes especially when the weather is already hot and warm.

Be active. Although you’re getting old and you often get tired easily, you should engage in activities to keep you energetic. Menopause might cause you to gain more weight faster. Your hormonal change is responsible for this. Activities make your bones stronger. Your metabolism will also benefit from your physical activities and exercise.

Take your supplements and vitamins. If you weren’t religious with your vitamin intake before, you should be now. Your systems get weaker as you get older so make sure you’re still getting enough nutrients, especially calcium and Vitamin D. Osteoporosis in menopausing women is a common case so you have to maintain your body’s good condition.

Deal with your mood swings. While the people around you may cope with your sudden mood changes due to menopause, you will still have to deal with it. If you don’t control your temper or if you allow yourself to get angry easily, you will give yourself stress. That’s a quick way to get more wrinkles.

Treat your skin. Menopause causes the skin to dry. It is important that you moisturize your skin regularly with skin nourishing lotions and body oils to keep your skin supple and soft.
