So you still put in 60-hour work weeks and you eat reports for breakfast, meetings for lunch, and a lot of paperwork for dinner. Come on. It doesn’t take a medical degree to say that stress kills. But to reiterate that point, BBC has this great article on how Work Stress ‘Changes Your Body.’
The figures are quite alarming. If you feel stressed out by work and still go through the daily grind, then you’re 70% likely to contract heart disease in the long run, a study reported in the European Heart Journal stated. The stress hormone cortisol can create changes in one’s biology.
Stress appeared to upset the part of the nervous system which controls the heart, telling it how to work and controlling the variability of the heart rate.
Those who reported stress were also recorded as having poor “vagal tone” – the impulses which regulate heartbeat.
I really wonder why stress seems to be a plain part of our daily lives. Unless a person makes the individual effort to destress or avoid instances that causes stress, it’s bound to be experienced. Could we eventually sue companies for endangering us? Probably a great reason why everyone just wants to retire and just put up home offices and try to strike it rich without having to continually face the daily grind.
