A few more days and it’s almost time to go trick and treating. Good thing you got those costumes ready and the kids are all excited to ask for candies. You can make your home more Halloween-y even if there’s no contest to win this year. All you need is the Halloween spirit so you can transform your home into the creepiest house in the neighborhood.
Since your theme is Halloween, your goal is to give people the creeps. Dig up the old decors you used last year but don’t recycle last year’s look. If last year, your main attraction were pumpkins, this year why not graveyard? You can make tombstones out of cardboards. Just make sure your chosen theme doesn’t scare the kids too much. You can also use some of the scraps you have lying around the house.
You don’t have to shell out big time, but if you had to buy, run off to flea markets and see what you can use. The good thing with flea market stuff is that it’s cheaper and it’s more original. Look for ghoulish cloaks, and satiny, wispy curtains.
Ask your kids to help. Your kids have a lot of Halloween crafts they made in school. You can ask them to use these so that their creatives will also get displayed. You can give ask them to paint some of your props on a weekend. Just be sure that whatever material you make them work with are kid-friendly, water-based and non-toxic.
Do all the painting and carpentry jobs in the yard if it’s possible. You don’t want to create permanent mess in the house.
Complete the ambiance with dim lighting. Use red or green bulbs and let it scatter on your scary creations. Most households display their Halloween creations in the porch for all to see and appreciate.
