It’s the big movie actually happening in your real life. And no, we’re not referring to that movie with that girl with the nudie pic and that blond guy. But thanks to that movie, a lot of kids think it’s now cool to be in the school musical. So how do you get to join one? Read on.

When is the audition? Be wary of the posters and flyers in the bulletin board and all over the school. Make sure that if there’s ever an audition, you’ll be among the first to know.

What are the audition requirements? Get a copy of the requirements for the audition. Snatch a flyer, or list down the guidelines from the poster. Have they specified an audition piece? How long are you given to perform? And when is your audition slot so you can sign up immediately? You need to know these things so that you’ll be prepared.

Practice, practice, practice. I know you’re no amateur. But hey, even the pros have to rehearse. If being in the musical is really important to you, don’t risk the chance of being unprepared for that audition. Never underestimate the competition.

Focus yourself but keep your cool. Your excitement might render you overwhelmed and a bit scared. Shake it off. Don’t forget that above all, you’re doing it because performing makes you happy. So just enjoy your audition.

Be open to criticism. Maybe they’ll be hard on you, maybe they’ll be nice. Whichever way, you can’t be sure. The best attitude to have during auditions is that of a confident and open character. You know you have talent. But if the judges say you need to improve on something, consider that. Remember that there will always be room for improvement and if they tell you where you need to work on, won’t that be helpful for your next audition?

Or, you could work behind the scenes. If you happen to suck at acting and singing but have a talent in crafts, audio tech, electronics, or even management why not be part of the musical as one of the tech people. You can be the lightsperson, the sound person, props person or even the stage manager.
