Losing yourself in a moment of fantasy and daydream can help you cope with more difficult situations. Immersing yourself in a daydream can both relieve some pressure and can even be used to simulate courses of action that you can take when the situation calls for it. Here are some examples on how you can daydream your way to success.
Be vivid. Try to be very vivid when imagining things. Try to evoke all the senses and emotions that come in daydreaming scenes.
Speaking engagements and interviews. One of the most common fears is the fear of public speaking. Imagining yourself doing great will boost yourself confidence. Picture the faces of the audience and hear the actual questions being asked.
Decision-making. Imagining the future is one way you can deal with the stress of big decisions. As a guide try to go by the “hope for the best, expect the worst” scenarios. Imagine how you would deal with those best and worst case outcomes of your decision. Try to think of how you’d overcome setbacks along the way. Imagining might reveal something that you haven’t really thought of before.
Depression and low-self confidence. Focusing on past successes can help boost one’s self-confidence especially when teetering on the brink of depression. Observing how you pulled things through especially during tough times can condition one’s mind to think positively.
