No matter how modern lifestyle becomes, it seems laundry work will always be among the toughest house chore, if not the worst. Most often than not, it’s the moms who end up doing the dirty deed. Having the whole family’s laundry done by pros or over at the local laundrymat is just plain expensive due to the bulk. But you can always manage this at home.

First of all, households still tend to be sexist. Women don’t have all day to take care all of the laundry work in one household. Women are busy and they also have work like the rest of the adults in the house. If the family helped out with their own soiled clothes, then laundry should be an easy task.

One way to get on top of laundry is to set a schedule in doing it. How much time does it take for laundry to pile up in your home? If in a week, the pile is already heavy, then you can either wash every weekend or ask the rest of the family to be more conscious of their clothes so you won’t have to wash so often.

Ask your family to help out. Are your kids old enough to do their own laundry? If they are, make them help out. This is another way of giving them responsibility and preparing them for their future independent life. When I started washing my clothes, I became more practical with my outfit and I avoided getting my clothes dirty so I won’t have to wash often. Your younger kids can even help with the sorting. There’s no reason why you should do everything by yourself.

Make sure everyone knows how to hang their wet towels, their barely-used pants and their coats. The clothes which don’t have to be washed after every use should be hung or kept properly.
