Everyone goes through peer pressure at some point in their life. It’s inevitable that some of our friends will influence our lifestyle, and our opinions. And although the influence we can get can be both good and bad, peer pressure is usually seen as negative because it tends to sway us into what would otherwise be our decision.

Peer pressure usually comes from friends who have very strong personalities. Because their personalities are strong, they tend to impose their beliefs on the rest of the circle, sometimes consciously, sometimes not.

Build your self-esteem and your self-identity. Peer pressure is usually a problem among teenagers because teens are usually confused and unsure of themselves. A person who is confident about his character and his values is more likely to respect his own decisions.

Practice saying NO. Usually the person who gets easily pressured has a problem in standing his own ground. Always saying YES does not make you a better friend. Always being agreeable might even lead you astray because in the end, you have to justify your decision.

Take your time when making your decisions. Take your time when it comes to making your mind up. Take that advice. When you have to decide on something, give it considerable thought.

Respect your values. When you allow your friends to sway you often, they get used to it. If you want them to respect your choices, you have to trust your judgment.

A person is defined by the decisions he makes. Make sure that the person you are is the person you see yourself to be, instead of how your friends pressure you to be.
