If you do go the digital route, definitely back up and keep multiple copies in several places. I've scanned most of my important stuff to disk, but even then, I've kept the paper versions because I just don't trust digital media to the extent I do a piece of paper. Great post, and "pick a filing system and stick with it" cannot be stressed enough. I've wasted way too much time over the years taking the design-a-better-mousetrap approach to organization. … and again and again.
