Children

We’ve already given you guys tips on how to dress infants. This time we’ll take a few minutes to discuss how to pick the right clothes for the older tots.

As always, keeping things in moderation is the main idea here. Clothes that are either too hot or too cold for the children to wear invite illness. Again, cotton is best during the summer because it’s light and breathable, allowing the skin to breathe and perspiration to find exit. Flannel is best for autumn and winter as it’s slightly thicker for more warmth. It will no longer be a problem for older kids as their skin is not as sensitive as when they were infants. Again, be observant whether the materials used for your children’s clothing prove to be skin irritants.

Clothes for boys should be made for free movement, as they are obviously more active. Shirts or tops that put a lot of pressure on the waist or chest could be very damaging to his respiration. Loose clothing not only gives more freedom of movement, but it also promotes muscular growth and activity.

The same principle should be used for girls’ clothing. After all, all children should be able to develop their motor skills equally, regardless of sex. However, if parents wish to dress their little girls in more feminine attire such as tights, and dresses, just be sure that the hosiery and the bodice of the dresses are not too tight.

However, try to involve your children in their clothing. Let them choose what they wish to wear for the day, and if their choice is not appropriate for the weather or for the occasion, then explain to them why not and make suggestions. This exercise helps your children exercise their individuality. It also helps in teaching them decision making at an early age.
