After your graduation in college, you need time where you can wait for results of your various applications. You’re excited to get a place of your own, but how do you do that when you don’t even know yet where you’ll work or when you don’t have money to last you a month? Perhaps the most practical decision, no matter how uncool, is to move back in with your parents. And mommy and daddy would definitely take little Boobookins instead of having their precious little baby wander the streets and be a crackhead.
There’s a need to let them know of your plans because they might’ve assumed that after college, you’d want to be on your own. With this in mind, they might’ve transformed your old room into a bar area or a mini-gym. So talk to them and tell them how long you’ll be staying.
Ask them if the old rules still apply. When you were in high school, you weren’t allowed to bring in your girlfriends but maybe now that you’re an adult maybe it’s OK. Then again before you invite any guests, you should be clear on the things you can and can’t do inside their house. Are you supposed to follow your old curfew? Or can you negotiate it and ask if you can come home as late as 2AM?
The advantage with living again with your parents is that you get to save a lot because there’s no rent to pay. That, and your meals are all on the house. But the downside is that you’ll have to follow their house rules. They might ask you for a share in the bills though. If you want to play by your own rules, then this is definitely not for you. Follow up on all your applications, so you can move out and finally get a place of your own so you can do whatever you want.
