It’s almost time again to get back in school. And for some, it’s as easy as meeting your old classmates and the same old professors. But for some of us who have already said goodbye to school a long time ago, going back to school is going to take more than just showing up on the first day.
Deciding to take up a master’s degree starts with choosing a course. Although in reality, the course will not determine your career in life, it’s still important that you take up that which is most applicable in your chosen field.
If you really don’t know what to take up, the wisest thing to do is to get a degree which is flexible or that which covers a general scope of study. This kind of degree will give you a wider range of work when it comes to future job choices.
Once you’ve chosen your course, you can list down the schools which offer the best programs. You may want to go back to your undergrad school, but look at other options. Other schools may have better program offerings than your old school. Going to a new school, of course, means you’ll probably have to adjust to a different teaching styles and setups. But think of the advantages. Enrolling to a new school also means you can build a new network.
Get an academic adviser. It is important that you get an academic adviser because you will need to make consultations all throughout your degree. You will most especially need your adviser when you are nearing your thesis, or when you join academic conferences.
