I still believe that there are still a lot of issues in this world that do not need an over-elegant solution. In short, the “Keep it Simple, Stupid” (KISS) principle still holds true. Zen has it that a happy person doesn’t lead a complicated life. There is some truth to this somehow. Just read the tabloid headlines and you’d see how complicated celebrity life is. And now take a look at Britney Spears and how messed up her life is. Here are some ideas on how to keep things simple.
Think before you act. A lot of complications arise because of hasty actions. So before you commit yourself in doing an act, think. Then think twice. Think of the simpler alternatives that would lead to the same desired result. Always opt for the simpler one.
Go for the root. When addressing a problem, always go back to the start. Often times the cause of the problem arises early. Treating the cause is always the best route rather than treating the symptoms. If you can quickly address problems, then do so. This would prevent further complications.
Stick to fundamentals. Why do we still have simple machines? It’s because they work. Aside from a few refinements in materials, the principle behind the hammer is still the same as what Caveman Og used it thousands of years ago. So as long as one way of working proves to be effective, stick and swear by it. The less moving parts a machine has, the less are the chances for it to break down.
Be efficient. Perpetually striving for perfection doesn’t really help you at all especially if you have deadlines to beat. Try to look for ways to deliver the best output possible with the available resources with the available time. This might not be as perfect as far as what a perfect output could be, but at least you’ve done a good task given what you have. And be content with that. Everyday tasks need not be your magnum opus.

1Thanks for the useful tips, I’m bookmarking the page! What I think is also important is to have some kind of helpers in your everyday life. These could be personal assistants, or if you can’t afford one, you might wanna use productivity tools, that keep emerging in the markets. Right now I’m experimenting with one of them - http://www.wrike.com/. I put my tasks there, set due dates and the tool reminds me about what I have to do next. My mind is free and clear. I feel, that I really become more productive. I’m going to use it for a GTD system. They have a post on it in their product blog http://www.wrike.com/blog/9/4/2007/Getting_things_done_with_Wrike_saves_us_hours
