Microsoft KB935509

Until now, Microsoft just finds ways to f*ck up its ways of dealing with updates. While SP1 for Vista is just around the corner, Microsoft continues to provide users with updates to “prepare” Vista systems for SP1 - something that I don’t quite understand. Anyway, a couple of days ago, Microsoft released a few updates including this one in support document KB935509 - supposedly a prerequisite for SP1.

[It] was supposed to end up only on Vista Enterprise and Vista Ultimate machines, since it targeted BitLocker, the full-drive encryption technology bundled with those premium versions of the OS. Instead, the update was also offered to PCs runnning Vista Home Basic and Home Premium.

And guess what? I’m running on Home Basic and I go the darn thing. The screenshot above is from my update history. It’s a good thing my system isn’t acting crazy yet. No other reports from fellow Home users about the update messing with our systems.

Oh well, maybe next time, I’ll just buy a Mac.
