Baby Shoes

Newsflash: a recent research found out that you give your kids shoes that are simply too small. According to this study, 90 percent of children are wearing shoes that are too small for their feet. And this is not good news as this can cause serious deformities later on.

How serious? Hallux Valgus. Your kid’s big toe will angle sideways towards the second toe. This condition causes bunions and bumps on the side of the foot. So give your kids healthy feet following these suggestions:

Knowing your kid’s shoe size may not be enough. Shoes have different measurement bases so you might end up buying shoes that are not so snug-fitting. Solution–shop with your kids so they can try on the pair and walk around to test if it fits comfortably.

Check regularly. Your kid’s feet are getting bigger by the minute, so make sure the shoes still fit. Parents usually don’t change the shoes until the pair is worn out and this is wrong.

Carefully choose your baby’s shoes. Forget cuteness and pop culture–your baby needs shoes that are soft, flexible, with non-skid soles.

Give it a half-inch allowance. Babies younger than age five have feet that grow faster so they need more space.
