There are more alarming things than suddenly finding yourself being a single dad. But there is definitely something scary about being one. But don’t fret. Moms are not the only ones who can work wonders! Use these tips as your single dad survival guides.

Learn how to cook. You’re not expected to be a chef in a matter of weeks but you gotta learn how to whip up decent meals. Work on some easy recipes like sandwiches, stir-fry, and salads. Making your own meals can save you a lot of money–take out foods simply cost more.

List down your kids’ schedules. You have to monitor where your kids are all throughout the day. It would be wise to have a copy of their schedule so if you ever need to fetch them, you’ll know where to go.

Go to the grocery alone. If you’ve never experienced tantrums in the store, the best way to avoid it is to leave them in the house. Get them a babysitter while you run for supplies. As long as you have your grocery list, you’ll know what to buy and you’ll even finish faster.

Talk to your kids often. You may not have time to see their recitals or their ballgames, but you can still give them the fatherly guidance when you come home from work. No more lingering at the office. Go straight home as soon as work’s over so you can have family dinner. If you have a kid who’s old enough to take responsibility, ask him/her to help around with preparing dinner and watching over the smaller ones.

Talk to your kids’ teachers and ask them to consult with you immediately for school-related problems. Your kids are sure to be affected by their parents’ separation, so make sure you know they need you when they do.
