Worker

Getting bored on the job is a very common problem, especially if your tasks are monotonous day in and day out. So what can you do to keep things a little more interesting?

If you are a frustrated writer or an artist, perhaps you can channel your extra energy writing or painting during weekends. If you are hobbyist, then perhaps you can find co-workers who share the same interest. You may start an interest group. Just don’t get too much into it that you neglect doing your actual job.

Improve your skills. Perhaps you want to change division, or a promotion, or a different position in the company you’re working for. Instead of getting bored, why not observe and note down which skills you might need to get that new position. If you have it, then develop it further. If you don’t, then start learning and using the skills at work. So when you are ready, you can easily apply for that new and more challenging position.

Speak up. If you’re not only bored but miserable as well, then don’t suffer in silence. Go to your supervisors and consult with them. Do not complain and whine. The best way to be heard is to be objective and constructive. Offer suggestions on how to improve the situation. Not only will the higher ups be aware of the problem, but they’ll also know that how professional you are.

Sometimes, dissatisfaction is a result of negative thinking. Think more positively about work and life in general. Think of each day as adventure so it won’t be plain, and boring.
