Tomorrow! Tomorrow! I love you, tomorrow!

If that is the song you’re always singing, then you are in a lot of trouble. What if the sun does not come out tomorrow, what will you do then? We’re not talking about being positive, it’s the procrastination bit that is a little worrying. Delaying action can turn out well in limited cases, but generally, putting things off until the last minute bodes disaster.

Do a little introspection. Find out what makes you put things off? What are you really avoiding? Some avoid doing tasks because of laziness, some because they fear failing at something. Whatever the reason is, you have to pin it down. By doing so, you can formulate a more concrete plan on how to find a solution to your procrastination problem.

Laziness and poor time management skills are the top causes of procrastination. This is a very simple thing to rectify. Just injecting a little discipline and some task mapping skills will do the trick. Making to-do lists, and breaking down tasks are simple steps to correct the problem, yet these too are very effective.

Low self-esteem can also be another reason. Since causes of low self esteem can be deeply rooted in a person’s psyche, this might take a bit of work. You can try it on your own but still you will need some form of support from your partner, or family, or friends. Start by building your confidence. Think more positively and make daily affirmations of your ability to finally make it. If you think you would need professional help in dealing with your issues, then find it. Just remember to take baby steps. It might take longer than you like, but doing something about it is already a first step in breaking the procrastination chain.
