Summer is here and due to the economic crisis, spending a lot for a family vacation might be stretching it a bit. But having dun doesn’t have to be spending. Here are some suggestions on how to enjoy the summer break without the financial hassle!
Increase your literacy. If you’re the bookish type, then visiting your local library will be just the thing for you. Not only can you read all the books you’ve been dying to put your hands on, but libraries also hold events such as book sales and free lectures. If you really have a lot of time this summer, you can even join book clubs. If you have kids, then they will enjoy the Children’s Story Hour program. Sometimes, libraries also give away free passes to local museums and other places of interest.
Get physical. Do a different physical activity everyday. There is badminton, soccer, frizbee, biking, hiking, or walking. You can also go to the local pool and have a swim. Enjoy your afternoons in the park and have a small afternoon picnic while the kids play.
Use your backyard. Reserve a small plot for a vegetable garden. The kids will enjoy this and in a short while you’ll have free fresh vegetables too. Organize a barbecue get together with family and friends. Each family can bring pot luck food. The kids will have other kids to play with while the grown-ups can swap stories while grilling or drinking ice cold beer. You can also camp with the kids in your own back yard.
