Raking leaves can be tedious especially if dried leaves seem to just sprout from everywhere. However, if you approach this task strategically, it won’t have to be so dislikeable.
Invest in a good rake. It can be quite expensive at first but a good, sturdy rake can last up to years. A good choice can be a spring tined rake as it will rake leaves without damaging grass and other plants underneath. You can also try a besom – which is like a broom made from sticks. Besoms should be replaced once a year.
Avoid having a strained back by getting a rake or besom with a long handle. Rectangular rakes are good for flat surfaces while a fan-shaped one will cover a wider area.
Start at the end of the lawn which is furthest from your house and continue across until you clear the whole lawn. Rake an area only once. If you need to go back, make sure you do so in the opposite direction so the grass blades won’t be flat.
Do your raking weekly so leaves won’t accumulate much. You can also use the leaves as soil conditioner.
