Sometimes, even if you try to keep an upbeat and optimistic outlook in life, there are other people who just won’t quit trying to get you down. Yep, these negative-thinking people aren’t just contented with being miserable, they want to make others miserable to boot. sure, you can try to help them but if they don’t want to be helped, the least you can do is to protect yourselves from their negativity.

Stop taking comments personally. Negative people react negatively to everything. If they make snide remarks, it’s not really targeted at you, it’s just the way they are. Don’t work yourself into a temper. Just let the comment slide and repeat to yourself that, “It’s not me, it’s you.”

Don’t react to the other person’s statements. Neither add to the negativity nor counter them with positive ones. You’ll merely end up in an endless, tiring circle. Negative people need to have the last word, if you’re not going to provide them the chance, then you’re just feeding into their negativity.

Don’t bring the negativity with you. It’s going to be like a burden on your back of which you can’t let go. Don’t rant about the other person to your friends or to your partner at home. Make it a point to leave the negativity where it was said. Let the other person ponder about it, and just think of happy thoughts.
