People need to develop their own sense of value. Without it, they would feel insecure and they would also lack motivation in whatever they want to do in life. It is important the this development starts as early on as possible
Babies respond to their environment and they react to various stimulation such as lights, movement, and noise. Observe your child and how they respond to these stimuli. Validate these responses by a smile or a hug or happy voices, and they will know that their actions and feelings have importance.
As your children grow older, allow them to explore their likes and interests. Let them initiate their own activities and encourage them to be curious. What you can do is to observe and merely redirect their interest if the activity they are engaged in is unfavorable.
Older children also have the same needs. However, as they are more aware of themselves and their reactions to interactions not only with their environment but with other people as well , spend more time listening to them when they tell stories, no matter how silly or weird they may seem. Focus on their strengths and help them overcome their weaknesses.
Do not force extracurricular activities on your children. If they prefer reading to playing baseball then focus on the former. Let your children live their dreams and not yours.
