Living away from home can be very difficult. You miss the comfort, the warmth, and of course the security.

Never leave your door open. Keep it locked. Yes, you might get comfortable enough in your dorm room but you can’t be too comfortable. Make sure that you lock your room when you’re not in it. Give your roommate the heads up and be sure that the two of you pratice this.

Always keep the emergency numbers posted visibly in your room. Better if you have them on speed dial. It’s not being paranoid. It’s just being safe and sure.

Put passwords on your computer systems. As for your other personal effects, you can always buy small locks to keep your items in plance. Don’t leave your personal belongings like your wallet in your room. Always keep it with your person.

Be familiar with your surroundings. Know the building well and the people around you. If something is out of place and you don’t feel secure, be more attentive.
