A little goes a long way. This is also the same for sharpening your leadership skills. Here are easy and simple suggestions on how to keep you on the top of your form, specially if a lot of people are looking up to you.
Never stop learning. Knowledge is never obsolete. Go back to school, attend relevant workshops, trainings, and seminars so you are updated on the latest approaches and trends in your industry. Not only that. If you can also learn on the theoretical approaches to leadership, then it would be beneficial. Try to apply these theories in the workplace. You can also learn by reading books on your free time. These will give you broader and varying points of view. Of course, it is up to you to discern which information would be applicable.
Leadership cannot be developed overnight. Volunteer to supervise projects so you’ll be able to experience various situations and circumstances. Aside from assuming a leadership role in your company, try to involve yourself in other endeavours such as community groups or charity work. These experiences will challenge you to make decisions quickly and effectively. It will also keep you in contact with different people, making your observation and people-reading skills much keener.
Observe other leaders. Read the news about world or company leaders. Pay attention to your company’s head honchos. How do they handle people? How do they make decisions? How do they make strategic planning? Watch and learn.
