There are those who are born public speakers, while there are others who are in the other end of the spectrum. Some people just find the idea of getting in front of an audience to say a few words a nightmare. Here are some things you can do to help alleviate your fear of public speaking:
Slowly take deep breathes. Keep your mind on your breathing and you’ll do fine. Just take one more breathe before speaking and you’ll find your nervousness dissipate a little.
Practice. The more you practice, the more confident you’ll be. You won’t have to worry because it’ll all become muscle memory by the time you get to the real thing. Find a friend or friends who can act as your audience. They might get bored, but at least you’ll get the hang of it.
Do your best but don’t even try to get it perfectly. It’s okay to miss a line or to falter on a word. Correct yourself if you have to and go on. People won’t notice unless you make them.
Use your nervousness to your advantage. The adrenalin rush could help you evoke more thought and feelings to your speech.
Do not taking flight, which means, stay there and face your fear. Do what you have to do and be done with it. It’ll all be over before you know it. Who knows, you’ll end up liking the experience that you would want a repeat!
