Let’s admit it. We tend to do things that only end up making us feel bad about ourselves later on. Why do we do them? It’s because these things are so ordinary that they have become habits. People tolerate them so there really is no need to change them. But there is need to change, if only to make one feel better and more secure about himself. If people feel better about themselves, they will also treat others well, and thus making them feel better. It will be a chain reaction of a good kind.
Here are some good attitudes that would make the world be a better place:
Be yourself. Of course, one must be responsible enough to make sure that his actions do not hurt other people, but sometimes people tend to be too concerned about what other people think. Ask yourself if worrying whether your clothes are not too hot, just like what the popular girls at school wear, warrants all that extra effort. Just be honest about yourself and don’t let what other people think define who you really are.
Be discreet. Easy to forget that there are somethings that should be left unsaid, especially with all these social networking sites popping up like mushrooms in a damp forest.Be mindful of any personal information that you are going to divulge. You wouldn’t know if your potential employer or a romantic prospect is doing background checks on you. Hmm…
Be courteous. “Thank you” and “Please” are two simple words that mean a lot. They make a big difference in how you relate with other people. Don’t forget to use them when appropriate, and look at people when you do. The most important thing though is to mean them when you say them.
Be appreciative. If you’ve been given good (or even exceptional) service in a store, or restaurant, or anywhere else, don’t forget to compliment the person. It is very easy to make a complaint, but why do people find it difficult to praise someone for a work well done? Of course, these people might “just be doing their jobs,” but it wouldn’t hurt not to give credit when it’s due, right?
Be confident. Love yourself. Stop comparing yourself to famous people and how they look. The images we see on screen and on glossy paper are not real. They are just that – images that have been edited to look perfect. These models and actors have stylists, trainers, and make-up artists who make them look good. Exploit your strengths and embrace your flaws. Emphasize your best features.Love yourself for who you are.
