chives

Chives are not only wonderful herbs for cooking, they’re also charming and decorative plants to grow. Here are some tips on how to grow chives:

Chives nurture well in any kind of soil and can be planted under the shade or where they can enjoy full sunlight. Just don’t plant them on very, very dry soil and you’ll be fine.

Always choose fresh seeds when planting. Sow the seeds indoors in normal potting compost. Remember to keep it moist. Transfer them outside when seedlings appear a week or ten days later. You can promote chives by dividing a larger clump with a shart trowel. Push it down through the middle and the smaller clumps can be planted as one whole.

Chive plants mature and develop lavender buds. If you wish to use the chives for cooking you can merely snip through freshly picked long slim leaves with kitchen shears. Rinse them thoroughly in running water then chop.
