Start your day with a plan. The best advice my boss ever gave me is to make a to-do list before I start working. I find this very useful in making sure that my activities are synchronized towards an objective. Having a list also makes you aware of the usual things you unconsciously do that wastes most of your time which you should be using for something else.
Refuse and learn how to say NO to impossible requests. You can only do so much, because you’re not Superman. When you simply have too much work or activities in line, just say NO to any extras. Making too many commitments will not only give you more stress than you can handle, it can also be the cause of failed activities.
Procrastinating. If you’re waiting for inspiration to hit you so you can start working, what’s gonna happen to your deadlines? Remember that you’re expected to produce results even if you’re uninspired. Be responsible enough to really get to work with respect to your time frame. To make his easier, you can use a Gantt Chart to monitor your progress.
Don’t allow yourself to be interrupted. The phone can ring anytime and you might even get a continuous string of instant messages, but you don’t have to answer soon. Focus on what you have to finish and don’t get distracted by friends who want to chit-chat. There’s a time for work, and there’s a time for play. Use your break time to socialize but give your 100 percent attention to your work as soon as it’s over.
One good tip to lessen your work pile is simply to delegate. If you can involve more people to help you out, do so. Why do you want to exhaust your body by trying to do everything by yourself when others are also expected to help?
