
One of the most overlooked parts of daily car checks and maintenance is under the hood and the air filter is one of them. Over time a clogged filter reduces your car’s performance and can even add strain on the engine contributing to more wear and tear. CarFront shares a few tips on checking and replacing your car’s air filter.
Checking the Air Filter
- Open the air filter housing (check you car’s manual as each vehicle varies location)
- Check the amount of dust. If the filter looks more like the color of dust than its real color, then it’s due for replacement.
- Hold it to the light and check if light gets through. If you can’t any hint of light, it’s due for replacement.
Replacing the Air Filter
- Take note of you car’s make and model for reference when buying.
- Buy a good reputable brand for OEM replacement if not an original part.
- Replace the filter as indicated by the manual. Make sure it first the housing snugly.
