Here is how you can keep your roof all ready for harsh temperatures and tough weather.

Inspect the roof on your own by climbing on it and physically checking for soft spots, loose shingles, and other damages. You can also hire an inspector to do the task for you if you are not able to do the inspection on your own.  Once all the problems have been noted down, you can now have the roof fixed.

Keeping rain gutters and downspouts clear of debris will prevent clogging. Water damage repairs can be very costly. Clean the gutters regularly. Make sure that rain water is directed to the drainage or a rain barrel so that rain water does not puddle around your house.

Check for animal nests (wasp, bird, squirrel, etc.). Animals and insects can cause damage on your roof too. Do not attempt to chase wild animals yourself as they can be temperamental and unpredictable. Contact your local animal rescue team to be safe.

If your house has a chimney, make sure that you have a spark arrestor installed to prevent roof fires. Installation of storm flashing for your chimney and vent pipes is also recommended so that wood rot won’t occur when water leaks into attic spaces and roof timbers.
