Preventing Clogged Sinuses
If you are susceptible to colds, then you are also prone to have your sinuses clogged. Here are a few tips on how to keep those sinuses clear:
Good nutrition is always good for the body, and that includes your nasal passages. Eat a well balanced diet. Spicy foods can open clogged sinuses so having Indian or Thai food once in a while is actually good for you. If you feel that your sinuses are getting congested, drinking hot beverages or a bowl of hot chicken noodle soup. You can also try hard peppermint candy.
Identify your trigger so you can avoid close contact with them. These are the most common triggers: air pollutants, smoke, dust and dust mites, molds and mildew, pet dander, pollen, viruses, bacteria, and fungi.
If it’s flu or colds season, boost your immune system by taking vitamins. You can ask your doctor about this so you’ll only get the right amount. Avoid others with a cold. Cover your mouth and nose with a scarf when you do go out. And get enough proper rest.
If you have an air purifier at home, this could be quite a big help. It regulates humidity and it also removes dust and allergens from the air.
If you do get a cold, you can pour hot water into a basin, add a few drops of ecalytpus oil or Vicks Vapor Rub. Get a towel and make a tent over the basin and breathe it in. Or, you can wet a washcloth with hot water and ring it out. Lie down on the bed or couch and put this over your face for a few minutes.
If all else fails, there is always an over the counter nasal spray to clear out your sinuses.
