Job Interview

You did your best but still you didn’t get the job that you’ve been meaning to bag. You ask yourself why. You suddenly doubt yourself and your capabilities. Don’t. There can be many factors which led to your not
being accepted. These maybe are some of them:

You may not be the only strong candidate around. If there are many other strong applicants for a job, then deciding which one would best fit can even be arbitrary.

You may be over-qualified. The reason why some companies do not hire over-qualified candidates is that they are afraid that they may leave immediately once better opportunities come along.

Favoritism (and even nepotism) can play a part in awarding jobs to certain applicants. Sometimes, not often enough, but it does happen, that you might have been bumped off the roster because it was given to family or a friend.

Some companies who are experiencing some financial difficulties can also turn down applicants because they feel they cannot afford them.

Other companies rely on search firms to have vacant positions filled. You might have had less chance of getting in if you submitted your application on your own.

What you can do is to ask when you receive a “sorry” letter or a call about why you didnt get the job. Some might give you an answer, some won’t. But if you’ve been given one, you can use this to further improve your job searching skills.

Don’t lose hope!
