Shopping Cart

Having to shop with your children is an inevitability. You’ll have to do it at one point of your life as a parent. So why not be prepared for it?

Always plan your trips ahead. Make a list and prepare your kids for it, making sure that they are not tired from play or school. Avoid last minute shopping and impulse buying.

Keep the kids from being bored and encourage them to be more responsible by giving them tasks, granted that they are old enough. Make them short lists that they can carry. For example, Adam can have a list of bath items while Jane can have a list of fruits and vegetables. So when you are in those particular areas of the grocery, you can have them “shop” for you. Make it educational too. Teach them how to choose the good ones from the bad ones.

If your kids are younger, make sure that they are rested well enough and that they have eaten prior to shopping. Bring a resealable bag of cookies with you. This will keep them from running through the aisles grabbing at foodstuff. You may allow them a few treats as well, but set a limit.

Teach your children that shopping is a treat. If they put up a tantrum, then you would have to leave. This will teach them that they cannot get what they want unless they are in their best behavior.
