Having a good lighting system in your home is essential in achieving a sunny ambiance. So make sure you keep your home well-lit and bright. Here are a few tips to guide you in giving your home a new light.

Save up on electrical bills by installing three-way lamps. Since you can choose among brightness levels, you can adjust depending on the kind of light you need. Also, as a follow-up on the Earth Hour initiative, make it a point to turn off lights you don’t use. Another bright idea is to install a dimmer to save more on bills.

Switch to CFLs. Compact Fluorescent Light is four times more energy-efficient than the incandescent bulbs you now have. Both give the same lighting, too.

Did you know that halogen lamps are dangerous and might lead to fire hazards? Instead of halogen, use compact fluorescent torchieres instead.

Clean the fixture tube. If your fluorescent bulb starts getting dim, wipe the entire tube with a damp cloth.

Install ceiling fixtures in the basic rooms – dining area, living room, hallway, and even the bedroom. Or better yet, consider installing a ceiling light with fan. A lot of people like this idea because it allows them to save on air conditioning as well.
