Soft skills, like any other skills job-wise, are the traits and talents workers have that enable them to perform tasks. These skills, are acquired through a variety of means. They usually come naturally to certain people, or are developed through experience.

Here are some soft skills the most companies look for in potential employees, or in employees that are considered for promotion:


Problem- Solving and Decision-Making Skills. Problem Solvers and Decision Makers are analytical, inquisitive, and creative. They are not satisfied with just answering the 5 W’s and H. They also ask, “What else is there?” They are never hasty and sloppy, but they are quick and sharp. They are also flexible enough to adapt to situations.

Oral and Written Communication Skills. Communicators are very good not only at getting their messages across but also at processing them in return. Employers usually look for communicators who excel both, verbally and in writing. Tact, a good grasp of syntax, and ability to adapt languageĀ  depending on context, are signs of a good communicator.

Team Oriented. Most businesses have already shifted to new organizational models wherein teams are important. Team oriented people are those who can work alone with others. They are collaborative and have no problems bouncing ideas back and forth with other people.

Leadership Skills. These are people who know when to step-up in the right situation. They assume responsibility and accountability in order to have a more productive team.

Motivated and Responsible. These people are armed with passion and dedication. They practice initiative, which means doing their assignments without being told. They are resourceful and they make sure that work Twill be done and will be done well.

Receptive. Receptive people do not fear change. They are open to ideas and are willing to consider them. They also welcome learning new skills so they can broaden their thinking perspective.
