Watching Time

Time management is something that grown-ups already find difficult to do as grown-ups, what more if you are a child? However, by teaching your kids simple concepts of time management while they’re still young will help them develop this skill that will be very important to them in their adulthood.

Be a good example. You don’t have to be perfect. Just try to manage your time the best that you can and if you make a mistake, make it a learning experience for your kids too. For example, you find yourself late in sending the kids to school. You can discuss this next time with your children. You can even ask them for suggestions on solutions.

Set a schedule. Although spontaneity is also important to keep things interesting and fun for everyone, keeping a schedule for the family is just as important. You can teach this to your kids when you help them set a study time after which they have playtime. Or when you have a set time for waking up in the morning. Or when you all have lunch on weekends at exactly this time. This can also be done when you help them prepare their things for school the night before like packing their schoolbags and laying out their clothing.

Have a family calendar. Place this in the house where everyone can see it such as the kitchen or family room. Everyone should put special dates in the calendar. For example, Tim has soccer practice on Wednesday after school. Jenny has a sleepover Friday night. Mommy has a hair appointment on Saturday. Daddy will go out of town next week. Review the calender every night with the kids for reminders.

Don’t forget to have fun. Like what has been said above, there is nothing wrong with being spontaneous. Find a pocket of free time everyday. Have a sundae after picking the kids up from school, since you have an hour to kill before Tim’s soccer practice. This will teach your kids that by keeping a schedule, it would be easier to make adjustments because you know when and where you can make them.
