Days of Mommy being the sole nurturer of children are long gone. At this day and age, Daddies are encouraged to take this role as well. It is understandable that new fathers would be a bit nervous when it comes to being alone with their newborns. So here are tips to help you prepare when the time comes for you to babysit on your own.
Don’t panic. Babies can sense anxiety and the last thing you want is an agitated kid in your hands. Breathe in and out and relax. The best way to get used to handling a baby is to make sure that you’re a hands-on Dad even if Mommy is around.
Ask questions. It is better to ask questions than to put your child’s life in danger. If there’s something you don’t know, ask Mom. If you can be available during your child’s monthly check-ups, be there and ask questions to your child’s pediatrician.
Try changing diapers, and feeding the baby as well. It is better to do all these things when Mom is around so she can instruct you on how to do it. Better yet, schedule your turn of taking care of baby. This will also get you into Mom’s better side.
Don’t forget to enjoy your time with your child. Bond with baby. There’s no reason why you can’t form a strong relationship with your child as young as he is. Soon enough your baby will grow up and you’ll regret that you didn’t have enough time with him or her, so why not make the most of it now?
