Most of us do not value ourselves enough. We tend to wallow in self pity and lack of self confidence when life tries to test us with challenges. So how can we change this way of thinking?
Nobody is perfect and not all of us know the answers to the different problems in life. However, to have an attitude of wanting to improve, to learn, and to grow is essential to wanting to be a better person. The more you become a better person, the more you have value in yourself. If you’re feeling that life is nothing but a series of challenges, then view them as opportunities to learn. What won’t kill you will only make you stronger. Accept yourself and be your own critic up to a certain point. It’s not about berating one’s self.
One just needs a clear and realistic view of himself. Identify your weaknesses and be humble enough to accept them. If you find yourself having qualities that you particularly like, then be proud of it. The key here is to be grounded. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses is one thing, but to be too self-critical of our faults and too proud of our achievements is another thing.
Find out how others value you as well. How others treat us is often a reflection of how we treat ourselves. Do others respect us? Perhaps it’s because we don’t respect ourselves as well. Observe closely and think about the dynamics of your relationships to other people? Once you find out the answer, work on improving yourself.
