crime

Anyone can be a victim of online scams. Sometimes criminals can hit us on our most vulnerable points and bingo!  If you’ve become a victim of an online scam, then these are the things that you should do:

First, get a hold of yourself. Crying over spilt milk won’t do you any good. What you need to overcome this is a clear mind because you’ll need it for what you are going to do next.

Next, if you have your financial accounts exposed, contact your bank and credit card companies immediately. Scam artists move quickly and if you wait on this, you might lose more than what you’ve already lost.

Then, get a list of your recent credit card transactions. Get this ready together with printed documentation you have of your transaction with the scammer. You will need all these to file a police report. The police can check security tapes and whatnots so they can get an ID of the suspect.

Contact your State Attorney General. Make them aware of the scam. They can assist with tracking down possible suspects by checking your case against other online scam cases.

Last, be wise and do not get fooled again. Do not use old passwords and login names when you set up new accounts. You’ll never know if they keep logs of previous scams they’ve already done.
