Another DIY tip! This time, it’s when replacing leaky faucets. This not how to replace leaky faucets but some suggestions on how to make the task a lot easier.

Know your faucet. Verify if it has its own water supply by checking if it has small knobs that are attached to the valves on the water supply pipes. This means you can turn off the water supply for this specific faucet without having to shut down the water supply to the whole house.

If you have to do the latter, simply go to the main valve of your house. Make sure that you identify which valve you are turning off. It is usually colored blue.

If you are unsure, have someone turn on a faucet so when it turns off as you shut the valve, then you’ll know you got it right. When turning off valves, it can be done by simply turning it with your hands or you might need to have a wrench. Just make sure that you turn it all the way off.

Do your repairs.

Turn the valve back on. Check for moisture around the connections to the faucet. Make sure that water doesn’t come out of the knobs as well. If you had to shut the water supply to the whole house, turn on all the faucets and let the water run for half a minute. This will make sure that most of the deposits will have be gone.
