Sometimes, credit cards are not as reliable as you would like them to be, especially when you are traveling abroad. To avoid the hassle of finding yourself without any money in a strange land, and placing expensive calls to your bank, here are some stuff you might want to remember:

Call your bank that you will be on holiday so they won’t suddenly suspend your card for what they think are unusual transactions. Make sure that you know if your bank charges extra fees for using them abroad. This is not the usual case, but it is better to be prepared, nevertheless.

Set aside some cash, in US dollars (which is more universally accepted in money exchange establishments anywhere), and some in the local currency. Don’t spend them all. Allot an amount which you can use for emergencies.

Cash withdrawals through credit cards, debit cards, or ATM’s can also be a hassle as they usually charge extra fees for your transaction. What you may want to do is use prepaid credit or deebit cards instead, which are sold as travel cards. Simply find one which you can load using the currency of your destination. You may be charged with an initial fee, but withdrawal fees are less.
