Wood cutting boards can be very good tools in the kitchen, but as they can also be sources of harmful bacteria, germs, and molds, you would have to make sure that they are always clean.

The first thing you need to do is make sure that you have a high quality wood cutting board. Choose one that is made of closed-grained wood (such as maple). Open grained wood are porous, which means they can store food particles. They might also create splinters when knife strikes them.

Protect the surface with raw almond or walnut oil. Wipe your cutting board with it after cleaning and they will surely last for a long time.

Clean your chopping board immediately after every use. You can use a paper towel and dampen it with white vinegar. Wipe this on the cutting board. Leave to dry. Vinegar will also get rid of the smell.

For more stubborn stains, you can wash the board with mild soap and water. Next, rub half a handful of salt on it. Cut a wedge of lemon and rub it against the stains. Rinse after and dry with a clean paper towel or kitchen towel.
