Patients who are bed-ridden are in the risk of more discomfort if they get bed sores.
Reposition patients every hour or two. Don’t let them lie to much on their backs. You can reposition them on their sides by propping their bodies against pillows. Having too much pressure on the skin can cause bed sores.
Give patients frequent sponge baths. Keep their bodies clean and dry. This includes using milder soaps and moisturize their skin to keep them from being too dry. Don’t let them get sweaty as well.
Check for bedsores on a daily basis. When pulling sheets over the patients’ bodies, do this gently so that it will relieve pressure and thus avoid friction burns. You can also try hot and cold compresses to improve the body’s blood circulation.
Keep the patients hydrated and nourished. Proper diet, hydration, and vitamins and mineral supplements can help this.If you have the resources, buy a mattress, pillows, and sheets that are recommended for bedridden patients.
