Most headaches go away after eating, napping or taking pain-reliever medicine. However, there are headaches that you could no longer bear. They can also be too frequent for one’s comfort. These headaches should not be taken lightly as they could be symptoms of an on-going ailment or disorder. If you are unsure on when to see your doctor, here are the things you should look out for.
Strength, type, frequency and pattern of the headache. Observe yourself at the onset of a headache and then compare it to the last headache that you had. If there are significant changes on the stregth and frequency or you have experienced different types and patterns of headaches, it is best to consult your doctor about it. Be sure to record your observations since it can greatly help your doctor in formulating his diagnosis.
Check if your other bodily functions have changed. Headaches coupled with deterioration of speech, memory or vision, difficulty in maintaining balance are really serious. Consult your doctor as soon as you can.
Any sudden headaches that comes with stiff neck, rashes or vomiting should not be taken lightly. Let the doctor know as soon as you can. This warning is very important for children so better be mindful of the other symptoms aside from their headaches.
Sometimes you just need to hold on until unbearable headaches subside. However, if pain killers are not doing anything to ease the pain or if you find yourself waking up to headaches or if coughing and sneezing can worsen your headache, do not dismiss it as another typical headache and consult your doctor.
